Choice of essay

Six essay questions were given, which were:

  1. Investigate a major controversy that unfolded online. Discuss its relevance to creative professionals. 
  2. Cyberspace is vital for protecting and spreading democracy. Explore this idea and question its effectiveness. 
  3. How did mobile devices change the way people use the internet? Consider its consumer impact and relate them to a specific creative industry/ profession. 
  4. Compare and contrast how two different communities or social groups use a specific social media platform. Which of the two groups has more to gain from it and why? 
  5. Malaysians are so uncreative that they cannot even make ‘dank’ memes. Argue for or against the statement. 
  6. Identify a figure who is generally known to have played a major role on the internet. Evaluate if his/her contributions are justified or mythologized. 
Question 4 thoughts:
  • Popular social platform for example Tumblr , Facebook, Twitter , whatsApp, Instagram and so on.
  • What kinds of information each social group will get. For example, Facebook can get all kind of information like news and events. Which Twitter personal stuff, art, news, the thoughts in their head.
  • Is a service-specific profiles for the website or app, that are designed by the social media organization
  • Each social platform are design for different purpose like  social media platforms that help you network (like LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.); social media platforms that help you promote (like YouTube, blogs, etc.); and social media platforms that help you share (like Buffer, Hootsuite, etc.).
Question 6 thoughts:
A few person I could think of Jimmy Wales (Wikipedia),  Mark Zuckerberg ( Facebook), Bill Gates (Microsoft). 
I try to look into Jimmy Wales:
  • Jimmy Wales is the creator of Wikipedia 
  • He is the co-founder and promoter of the online non-profit encyclopedia, Wikipedia, and the for-profit Wikia web hosting company.
  • Wikipedia is the first site which comes first when we need to know about a basic information, with click of search.

The topic that I have pick is question 4 "Compare and contrast how two different communities or social groups use a specific social media platform. Which of the two groups has more to gain and why?"  So what is a social media ? It is a web-based and mobile technologies on smartphones and tablet computers that enable us to create and share content like pictures, information, video, audio. How do they advertise their product? For example some advertisement on the side of Facebook news feed page and the game you play on Facebook there is always on small box on the side or bottom that always come out.  There is always some ads coming from the sidebar of your Facebook page, and it is showing cloths, foods and other stuff to make you purchase. It is part of a marketing strategy. Facebook advertising offers users or consumers the opportunity to interact actively with the adverts on their page allowing them to “like” and “share” and also view who else or which friends liked or shared the same adverts.
