Year two : Choice of essay

The following are topics that were given:

 1. Critically review a local art/ design exhibition in-depth. Discuss it in terms of its curatorial goals and exhibition design with related research. 

 2. Compare and contrast the relationship of celebrities with their fans in two different creative communities. Which one is relatively more healthy in their connections?

 3. Examine the issue of cultural appropriation within a domain of beauty, fashion or music industry. Why are some communities cautious of, or against this practice?

 4. What are some issues and best practices for design in multilingual communities? Write from the perspective of either a graphic designer or interactive designer.

 5. Explore a variety of media is used within the context of branding or transmedia storytelling. Does variety dilute the effectiveness of an advertising campaign or story?   

Question 3 thoughts:
  • Cultural appropriation, it is where using other countries or people's culture without respect and proper knowledge.
  • Cultural appropriation usually can be found in music videos, fashion and beauty. They use as their inspiration and use it as an idea to present their understanding of the culture.
  • So they may be some others think there is no respect to their culture, that the stole something away that is theirs. 
  • Is it good or bad? What is the pros and cons of this?
  • Cultural Appreciation vs Cultural appropriation, this is becoming a hot topic which a lot of people debate on. 
Question 5 thoughts:
  • There is a wide range of media today, from physical to data.There is a lot of people using media creatively, like game, video, installation and etc. 
  • They can create a short series to promote their brand, to advertise.
  •  As a example, there is a installation I came across, which is the shampoo sunsilk. By place a installation in the mall for people to blow it into the hole and a small packet of shampoo will come out. 
  • So is the story or creativity is being plant into their users/costumer's mind? Will this help them or because of this variety of media used effect them?

How do they advertise their product? For example some advertisement on the side of Facebook news feed page and the game you play on Facebook there is always on small box on the side or bottom that always come out.  There is always some ads coming from the sidebar of your Facebook page, and it is showing cloths, foods and other stuff to make you purchase. It is part of a marketing strategy. Facebook advertising offers users or consumers the opportunity to interact actively with the adverts on their page allowing them to “like” and “share” and also view who else or which friends liked or shared the same adverts.
