Music tone, costume and appearance appropriation- 2

In the previous post, I mention about cultural appropriation on the other's cultural will causes stereotyping and cultural sensitivity. So how is this act harming? Why it is bad?

According to Lippmann, he defined stereotypes as "pictures in our heads". Before we see and experience the world, we take from society pre-defined images of the world in the form of stereotypes. Lippmann claimed that stereotypes are the defense of our social status, he sees stereotypes as "The predictions of the world, our own values, our own position and our own right. They are our traditional fortress, and behind its defenses we can continue to feel secure in the position we occupy. Any attack on stereotypes is like an attack on the basis of our social status, values and on our whole belief system."

This is a video of Hollywood movies (stereotypes) make us think about African man, but how it really is different from what we think. Stop being a stereotype and see it yourself.

The people which their culture is being appropriated feels like their culture and they themselves is being mocked. They feel like being "Othered" because of their identities, as white people making jokes out of their identity. Example in a Miley Cyrus' VMA Performance, where many finds her misappropriating Hip-hop culture, and also mocking black people. In her performance there was the messy focal point of a number that was danced by mostly black women. These performers twerked in the background, their faces and bodies masked by teddy bear object. At one point during the performance, she stopped to slap one of her dancers, on the arse repeatedly (Mccarthy, 2013). This act of her's is being debated calling her being racism, not only in these particular performance also the others videos performance.
