Why Facebook
Before entering into the topic I need to know why do so many people use Facebook? Why Facebook?
According to the research Facebook give us the use motivations: companionship, professional advancement, social interaction, meeting new people, habitual passing of time, relaxing entertainment, expressive information sharing, escapism, cool and new trend. But to say it is actually either bonding or bridging, depending on their motivations.
According to the interview:
1. Social interaction: The simple need of people to “keep up with what is going on”.
2. Information seeking: This involves information on news events and also the ability to educate oneself about a topic.
3. Pass time: This encompasses the new phenomena with mobile devices to pass time where time did not need to be passed, such as standing in line for coffee.
4. Entertainment: Many broadcasters take advantage of multiple screens that are now before consumers, i.e. the TV screen and the screen of their device where they can play games or watch commentary on programming via Twitter.
5. Relaxation: This is distinct from the entertainment theme above, as it mostly to do with the direct relief from stressful feelings, rather than the pursuit of something joyful.
6. Communicatory utility: Similar to the social interaction theme, this context focuses on the facilitation of any communication taking place rather than any discussion itself. Think Facebook Messenger rather than Facebook itself.
7. Convenience utility: The only theme directly related to buying, it reflects the ability to purchase items or experiences via social media.
8. Only half of those interviewed identified the convenience that social media gave them as something they valued and utilised.
9. Somewhat counter intuitively, only two in five of those interviews said they used social media to share information, despite the fact Facebook seems to be full of people showing off their latest holiday snaps.
10. Finally, and rather sinisterly, almost a third of people say they use and gain gratification out of social media for surveillance purposes, i.e. spying on their friends, family and celebrities. (Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2015)
But how and why are they so addicted?
Is possible to say because of the user-interaction features as status updating, sharing links, private messaging, commenting, chatting, and media sharing. They can communicating with friends, looking at or posting photos, finding out about or planning events, sending and receiving messages, posting to or reading on walls, getting to know people better, finding contact and profile information. It because of the technical features related to social data sharing, elements like graphic, audio, video.
Because of this features we can use it in different way, like helping on study or share and sell thing online. To promote a new brand, food, company and this is a way to use it. We can connect to friends, find out news also selling things online. Student can use this feature to ask help for their work, and communicate with the teacher using Facebook.
